Part 1. How to find a job in the modern world

 Hm … , that’s sure a problem.

And in this course of lessons I will give You the answer. The one based on my personal experience. I used to seek for and find jobs with utter success. Then I myself held interviews, selected the candidates and recruited them. Now I know the ropes.

My first and foremost conclusion. You should be looking for a new employment not after You'd lost the job, but all the time. That should be a permanent process. This is a part of any profession, strange as it may sound. If You cannot sell Your talents, they're worth next to nothing; they'll be appreciated by the future generations at the best.

Alas, in this world, we all have to become businessmen and sell, at least, one sort of goods – a part of ourselves. That might be a bit disappointing, but that's how this world runs. Let's see how to sell our skills, education, experience. And at the best possible price.

You should start seeking a new job when You don't need it so badly yet.

 Because:

  • You have the time and the possibility to choose the best option.
  • You're confident in Yourself. And that will be apparent in Your resume, during the phone talk, and, all the more so, at the interview. That is, at all the stages of the vacancy selection You'll have an advantage. Just try, while having a good job, to go anywhere for the interview. You'll be stunned at how calm and relaxed You are. You sound straight and persuasive. And no wonder, that You talk to anybody as an equal, since, in the essence, You don't need anything from Your counterpart. And the way You feel is the way You're taken.
  •  You know Your value. You can work for ten years at one place and think You're duly esteemed, and then take an interview after reading an add, and find out that the same work is long since paid a lot better. Or quite the opposite way. Both results are useful.
  • Hearing of Your attempts, the principal will most probably offer You a promotion, or a pay increase. And You'd know what to tell him. Never doubt.

I could produce multiple arguments, but I'd rather use ex adverso method (from the contrary, to put it simpler). A jobless person with no “golden stock” for the evil day looks miserable at the interview. His counterpart thinks all the time – if this applicant is not wanted anywhere, why on earth I should want him.

When You're in need and out of work.

 Before going to apply to a well-paid job by profession, and, moreover, to a managerial position, first bring Your finances in order. Perhaps, You'd find not a very prestigious work, but the one that pays well. Acquire the certainty, at least, in the day to come. Then begin to claim the job, You really need.

Let's turn to practice.

It's very simple to find a good job. One needs to keep the following plan:

  1. Compose a resume.
  2. Place it on one of the leading employment sites.
  3. Create a site-resume or a blog-resume.
  4. Learn to create the cover letter to the resume.
  5. Send Your resume with the cover letter to potential employers and to employment agencies.
  6. Take the preliminary interview by the phone;
  7. Prepare for the interview (clothes, behavior, style);
  8. Take the interview with the employer representative;
  9. Send the letter of thanks.

Select one proposition from the multitude. Visit the new workplace. I've dedicated a separate lesson to every point, where I give recommendations and explanations. These are not dogmas, and they cannot describe every life situation in full. These are advices based upon my life experience and tested in action. Study them, follow them, acquire the experience in seeking the job. Then, leaning already upon Your own experience do adjust and creatively enrich the method. Nothing should be stagnant, everything should progress. And Your career either.
